My name is Neylin, and I’m a parent and leader at Families First. When I joined Families First about two years ago, I was a first-time mom feeling overwhelmed and eager to learn more about parenting. Little did I know, this decision would shape not only my parenting approach but also my role as a community leader.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about my experience with Families First. The support, guidance, and education I’ve received have been invaluable, not only to me but to my family as well. I have two children, a 5-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl. Before Families First, I’ll admit, I was more permissive as a parent. Love truly can blind us sometimes. But through Families First’s Power of Parenting (POP) program, I learned the importance of setting limits while still fostering love and teaching discipline.

Now, as a Parent Ambassador for POP programs, I work alongside dedicated individuals to empower other parents in our community. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of something so impactful. Through my role, I’ve formed deep friendships with fellow parents, sharing stories, resources, and supporting one another through the highs and lows of parenting.

One particular story stands out to me—a single mom in one of our programs, new to the country who was escaping an abusive relationship. She found solace and support within Families First, feeling less alone and rediscovering herself amidst adversity. Moments like these reaffirm why I stay involved and committed to this cause.

My family dynamic has shifted positively since joining Families First, with a focus on open communication with my children. My son has become more patient, and our bond has strengthened through improved communication. When faced with challenges, I now have the tools to step back, assess the situation, and communicate effectively with him. My daughter mirrors her older brother’s behaviors, emphasizing the importance of these positive interactions.

Families First has become not just an organization I’m involved with but a fundamental part of my journey as a parent and a leader. I’m eager to continue learning, advancing in my life and career, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of families within our community.

Make a gift to Families First today.
