“Being a mother has always been a beautiful yet challenging experience for me. As an immigrant mother, my journey began with immense hardship when the father of my child left. Through my involvement with Families First, I found solace and strength in a supportive community of fellow parents who understand the realities of parenthood beyond the idealized images often portrayed in the media.
Participating in Families First programs has been instrumental in improving my mental health, providing me with a safe space to connect with others facing similar struggles. I now have a deeper sense of purpose and respect for myself. Through this community, I have realized that I am more than “just” a mom.
One particular moment stands out in my journey – a phone call from a distressed mother seeking help. This experience opened my eyes to my own capacity to make a difference in the lives of others, reaffirming my value and strength. It also taught me empathy, understanding, and the strength we all have as a community.
In the diverse and inclusive environment of Families First programs, I have learned valuable lessons from women of varied backgrounds and experiences. I have gained insights into prioritizing health, setting boundaries, and advocating for myself and my children. As a result, I have become a role model within my community, recognized for my willingness to help and support others. Other moms at my child’s school seek me out when they need help getting connected to programs and resources.
As an ambassador for Families First, my contributions are not only recognized but also rewarded, providing me with a stipend that acknowledges my efforts and dedication. This support has enabled me to pursue my goals of independence and further education, illustrating the transformative impact of community involvement and empowerment.”
