Karla Alvarez is a native Puerto Rican raised in Chelsea, MA. In 2000, she enrolled in the Inter American University and moved to Puerto Rico, where she later met and married her husband. Karla graduated in 2004 from the Inter American University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
That same year, Karla returned to Chelsea and began a career in human services. She became a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until she moved to Florida, where she continued to work and develop her passion for families and children.
During the following years, while working for Champions for Children, Karla had the opportunity to partner with organizations like Healthy Start, Healthy Families, and Parents as Teachers. These experiences set firm roots in Karla’s knowledge and understanding of family dynamics and children’s development.
In 2017, Karla and her family moved to Colombia to serve as missionaries, offering support, basic needs, and spiritual guidance to the communities they worked with. Karla’s work in Colombia as a missionary strongly influenced her goal to continue supporting families.
Currently, Karla is the Area Manager for Chelsea, Revere, and surrounding communities. Through this job, she promotes, develops, and delivers the Power of Parenting Program throughout those areas and oversees the Parent Leadership Program, which supports growth and development of parents’ leadership talents.
Karla holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Turabo University in Tampa, Florida, where she specialized in children from K through 12 in a fully bilingual Spanish and English program.
