Juan-Carlos joined Families First in July 2017 after working as the Citywide Manager of Community Based Strategies for United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
He is passionate about contributing to challenging projects that have strong, long-lasting impact on people’s lives and their communities. His professional background is in community development, business, economic development, multicultural affairs, and macro- and micro-lending.
As a Partner Relationship Manager, Juan-Carlos is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of the Power of Parenting program on the ground. His deep knowledge of the communities served by Families First is already leading to success in developing new, targeted incentives for parents and significantly increasing recruitment. Currently, Juan-Carlos also leads the East Boston Collaborative for Families at East Boston Social Centers.
As the Business Development and Training Specialist for the Center for Women & Enterprise, Juan-Carlos was responsible for managing 28 programs, including outreach, logistics, and achieving program goals. He also contributed to, edited, and translated the book 18 Steps to Start Your Own Business in collaboration with author Linda Pinson.
During his time working in economic development, Juan-Carlos served as the Chairman of the Education Committee for the FDIC’s Alliance for Economic Inclusion, with the mission of enhancing the economic well-being of low- and moderate-income immigrants and others, including the unbanked and underserved. Prior to that, he worked for East Boston Savings Bank, where he helped develop the Latino market, and was also a Program Director for Accion USA.
As Director of the Boston Main Streets Program, Juan-Carlos worked for the Menino administration, focusing on economic revitalization in commercial districts as well as business retention and capital attraction.
Juan-Carlos holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Universidad Mayor de San Andres in Bolivia, a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Boston University’s School of Management, and a Certificate in Social Work.
Juan-Carlos is originally from Bolivia, and he is the proud dad of two boys, Randy and Yazi.
