Working with Parents in Groups
Working with Parents Individually and In Groups
Parents often benefit from the support and knowledge they gain from parent education, whether provided individually, such as in a consultation or coaching relationship, or as part of a group experience. A major challenge for professionals when offering support to parents is to be non-judgmental, culturally competent, and responsive to the needs of the parents. Parents must leave the helping relationship feeling empowered and respected, with practical ideas they can use immediately. This training helps professionals gain the effective process skills needed to conduct successful parenting groups and work with parents individually. These skills include creating an atmosphere of trust and how to communicate useful information and ideas in meaningful ways. (6 hours)
