Accomplishments and Achievements

Families First’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Significant development of new and revised curricula in the areas of emotions and emotional intelligence; teen-specific issues looking at risky behavior, body image, and communication; impact of violence work; early development focused on birth through five years of age; and a five-part series focused on self-esteem and self-control as they relate to bringing out the best in children

  • Enhanced strategic partnerships with large initiatives and organizations, such as Boston Public Schools’ “Parent University” and the City of Cambridge’s “Baby U,” which is a program that guides low-income parents through the rigors of early child rearing to ensure that their children are prepared, both intellectually and socially, to enter kindergarten on even footing with other children

  • Completion of a strategic plan update whose direction includes a major component tied to significantly enhancing the organization’s evaluation capability

  • Launching of a new website

  • Presentations at state and national conferences, sponsored by organizations such as the Children’s Trust Fund, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Massachusetts Alliance for Teen Pregnancy
