How Do I Look? Shaping Healthy Body Images in Boys and Girls

Category: School Age and Teen Related Issues
Age range: ages
3-8 or
 9-18

Positive body image is important for healthy growth and development in both boys and girls. Few people are satisfied with how they look and feel at all times. Yet, a person with a healthy body image is realistic about what can and cannot be changed about his or her body, engages in healthy ways of modifying appearance and sees appearance as only one aspect of who he or she really is. This workshop helps parents know how to react to children’s concerns about their bodies in ways that influence and promote healthy self-image. It also presents ways to communicate with children about bodies. Self-esteem building strategies and discipline techniques related to establishing healthy body images for children are also discussed.

Note:  This workshop is available specifically focused on shaping healthy body images for girls, for boys, or for both. It can also be specifically focused on younger children (3-8 yr olds) or older children (9-18 yr olds).
