Details:Cultural competence is the ability to learn from and relate respectfully with people of your own culture and other cultures, adjusting your own behaviors based on what you learn. This training will give participants an in-depth perspective of how different cultural experiences, belief systems, family structures and values influence parenting. Participants will examine how one’s own experiences have shaped internal biases. Specific skills that help professionals understand, adapt, and respond sensitively to differences will be addressed. After completion of this professional development course, participants will be able to: Expand or broaden their definition of diversity beyond race and ethnicity; Recognize the benefits and barriers to building and maintaining mutually satisfying partnerships;Understand and incorporate active listening, sensitive responding, and conflict resolution skills with families; Acknowledge cultural differences, recognize biases, and adjust their behavior accordingly;Examine the organizational systems and practices in their workplaces as they relate to cultural competence;Identify alternative structures that are supportive of parent-professional relationships;Expand their network of resources and repertoire of effective practices.
